Harassment and Discrimination
We consider all forms of discrimination, harassment, and power abuse unacceptable and we strive to prevent and combat them.
We promote a speak-up culture and openness and transparency in communication and we are continuously improving our anti-harassment and anti-discrimination procedures, including in connection with hiring processes and invitations to external guests, to ensure that our community is a welcoming and safe space for all. We recognise that our procedures have not always been effective in helping us assess the risks posed by certain situations, persons, and kinds of structural relationships.
UWA students and staff who would like to discuss or report discrimination or harassment (including sexual harassment) they are or believe that they might be experiencing or witnessing can contact our Equal Opportunity Coordinator (mariapaola.gritti"AT"uni-hamburg.de, +49 (0)40 42838 9757), who can provide guidance about possible next steps, ranging from informal clarifying conversations with the persons involved to the possibility of submitting a formal complaint, and connect to relevant advising and legal services within UHH (see also UWA’s Guidelines on Discrimination and Harassment).
All our students and staff are encouraged to attend the anti-discrimination trainings we regularly offer at UWA, and we monitor discrimination, harassment, and power abuse in our community through a biyearly UWA-wide survey. Survey reports can be accessed in UWA’s Intranet.
All our staff, students, and guests are asked to familiarise themselves with UWA's Guidelines on Discrimination, Harassment, and Power Abuse.
