Combining Research and Care Work

Multiple measures facilitate combining research and care work at UWA.
UWA postdocs and junior professors with care responsibilities are entitled to support by student assistants (max. 20 hours / month). Requests (indicating why an assistant is needed and what tasks they will perform) should be submitted to UWA's Equal Opportunity Coordinator (mariapaola.gritti"AT"uni-hamburg.de) and will need to be approved by UWA’s Steering Committee.
Expenses incurred for privately organised family care in situations in which regular care services are not available can be reimbursed (up to max. 600 € / year (employees) or 300 € / semester (students), with max. 8 hours / day, max. 12 € / hour). To request a reimbursement, please send this form, filled-out and signed, to UWA’s Equal Opportunity Coordinator (mariapaola.gritti"AT"uni-hamburg.de). On a case-by-case basis, the travel expenses incurred by a caregiver accompanying staff on a work-related trip in order to provide care for a family member may also be reimbursed.
Upon request, childcare on site at CSMC can be organised when UWA events take place in the evening or on weekends.
UWA’s Equal Opportunity Coordinator can also provide information about how to access care services available through UHH and in Hamburg.
