Over the years UWA has grown into an exceptionally diverse community in which students, researchers, and administrative staff from over 40 countries collaborate with each other.
Our Equal Opportunity Coordinator (mariapaola.gritti@uni-hamburg.de((mariapaola.gritti"AT"uni-hamburg.de), +49 (0)40 42838 9757) advises and assists international members of our community on a variety of issues, including visa and immigration issues and how to access services in Hamburg.
A variety of services (including legal advising services) as well as networking opportunities dedicated to international students and staff are also available UHH-wide. In particular, international scholars can contact UHH’s Welcome Service if they need help organising their arrival to or stay in Hamburg.
We foster linguistic equality by supporting staff and students to develop the linguistic skills they need for their scholarly work and for their life in Germany and by offering scholarly events, including block seminars and semester courses, in extra-European languages. We also welcome in our publications multiple national and ethnic varieties of English.
Our students and researchers can also join language courses offered at UHH's Sprachenzentrum, including German courses, courses for a variety of modern languages, and courses training academic-writing, presentation, and professional communication skills.
