Connecting with local and international audiencesPreserving Artefacts and Sharing Knowledge: One Year in Our Nepal Project
18 January 2024
Over the past years, the CSMC office in Kathmandu has become a vibrant centre not only for the preservation of manuscripts but also for encounters and exchanges with local people – from politics, culture, academia, and the general public. In our image gallery, we look back on the year 2023.
Our commitment to preserving manuscripts in Nepal dates back to 2018. Since then, our workplace at the Āśā Saphūkuthi (Āśā Archives) in Kathmandu has turned into one of the hotspots of preservation activities for written artefacts in this area. This is reflected in the large number of visitors that come to us every year. These visitors come from all walks of life, including members of the parliament and government officials, members of the local community, students, pupils, and international scholars. For each of these different groups, our colleagues in Kathmandu go to great lengths to make their visits worthwhile and informative.
These encounters play a crucial role in sharing knowledge and connecting with local as well as international audiences, and in raising awareness for the relevance of preserving written artefacts. They give people the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the local written cultural heritage and the preservation strategies that are already being pursued or planned for the future.
In our image gallery, we have collected impressions of such encounters from 2023.
