Teaching Global & Local
Our teaching starts within the traditional university framework where we run for instance the international MA Manuscript Cultures and a wide range of winter and summer schools. Our researchers also work with audiences outside university settings ranging from schoolchildren who want to explore academic questions in a playful way to professional academics who want to develop additional skills beyond their main field. At the Cluster of Excellence ‘Understanding Written Artefacts’, the transfer of knowledge therefore begins with hands-on sessions on different writing cultures in primary school, and goes all the way to practical courses with professionals in archives, libraries, and museums, for example in the field of conservation of written artefacts. A particular emphasis of our Cluster is to make sure that our courses have an impact in our local context in Hamburg, but also in our research areas across the globe.
