Our annual winter school on ‘Cuneiform Culture and the Akkadian Language’ is coming up again: this year, it will take place from 19-23 February. The course is taught at introductory level and participation is open to students from all backgrounds.
The Akkadian language was the main language of Mesopotamia from the middle of the 3rd millennium to the end of the 1st millennium BCE. It was noted with cuneiform signs – like most of the languages of the Near East at that time. From 19−23 February 2024, the winter school ‘Cuneiform Culture and the Akkadian Language’ will provide a general introduction to this language and way of writing, employing a hands-on approach with many practical exercises.
The course is primarily aimed to BA and MA students. Interested doctoral students are welcome as well. Like last year, this edition of the winter school will be held in person; online participation is not possible.
Lectures will be held by the internationally renowned assyriologist Cécile Michel. At CSMC/UWA, she is the Principal Investigator of ‘Reading Closed Cuneiform Tablets Using High-Resolution Computed Tomography’ (together with Christian Schroer and Stephan Olbrich). and also the Head of our ‘Ethics Working Group’.
For more information and registration, please contact the coordinator of CSMC's Graduate School, Merry Rebello.
