Every year, the Deutsche JuniorAkademien (DJA) offer talented young students intellectual challenges that go beyond the school curriculum. As part of their programme, twelve students explored the VR reconstruction of the theatre of Miletus created at the CSMC this July.
The VR reconstruction of the historical theatre of Miletus enables scholars to exactly comprehend the spatial context of the theatre’s inscriptions – and thus to better understand their impact, addressees, and meaning. At the same time, the VR application can also open up new learning opportunities for students, provide audiences beyond the university with an easily accessible and interactive insight into research, and offer them an immersive experience of an ancient site.
This July, twelve students from grades 8 to 10 got to know the virtual theatre as part of the programme of the St. Peter-Ordingen JuniorAkademie. The youth academies offer an extensive holiday programme to particularly interested students, giving them insights into different areas of scientific work and the arts.
The course took place at the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory of Universität Hamburg, where the VR reconstruction of the theatre was created as part of the CSMC project on ‘Immersive City Scripts: Inscriptions and the Construction of Social Spaces in Miletus (Asia Minor)’.
