The position is part-time (50% of standard work hours per week) and fixed-term, with a duration of four and a half years. Applications can be submitted until 13 February.
The DREAMSEA research project – jointly conducted by the Center for the Study of Islam and Society (PPIM) at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta and the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC) at the University of Hamburg – aims at preserving endangered manuscripts owned and archived by individuals residing in Southeast Asia by digitizing them onsite and opening access to it online. After a successful first phase of 7 years, it will start its second 5-year phase in 2026.
To support the project teams in Hamburg and Jakarta, we are looking for a committed person to coordinate and provide organisational support for the project.
The responsibilities include organising the monthly online meetings between Jakarta and Hamburg and ensuring appropriate follow‑up on their agendas. The role also involves supporting the Jakarta team in communicating with external partners before and after missions, coordinating schedules, and facilitating collaboration with external experts. Another key task is to work closely with the project team in Jakarta, the IT and data management units in Hamburg, and the PIs to plan and monitor deadlines for the completion of metadata and the uploading of images. In addition, the position entails organising the annual board meetings and regional workshops, both online and in person, in cooperation with the Jakarta team. The successful candidate will furthermore assist the administrative and finance officers in Jakarta and Hamburg, as well as the PIs, in preparing mid‑term and annual reports. Finally, the role includes facilitating the exchange of relevant information on DREAMSEA’s public outreach in Southeast Asia with the CSMC communications officer, in close coordination with Jakarta.
The deadline for applications is 13 February 2026. More information on the position is available here.
