What does it mean to do research on written artefacts? Employing concrete examples, two new image films provide an easily accessible introduction to the work of researchers at CSMC.
Research centres like CSMC are large, complex entities: at the Cluster of Excellence ‘Understanding Written Artefacts’ alone, more than one hundred scientists work on over 50 individual projects from around 40 academic disciplines, including the humanities, the natural sciences, and computer science. The simple question ‘What is CSMC?’ therefore does not have a simple answer.
Two new image films now provide easily accessible and entertaining insights into the research at CSMC. By introducing people working on concrete projects, the films illustrate what the much-used term ‘interdisciplinary research’ means in practice. The featured researchers work in completely different fields; the films make clear why they are nevertheless working at the same research centre – and, what is more, why this makes a lot of sense.
Two videos are published simultaneously: The short film (approximately 6 minutes) gives a quick overview for anyone encountering the CSMC for the first time. For those who want to know more, the twenty-minute film goes into more detail.
Both films were produced by Hoppenhaus & Grunze Medien. Wiebke Beyer served as production manager at CSMC.
