From 21-25 February 2022, the CSMC will host an introductory-level winter school on ‘Cuneiform Culture and the Akkadian Language’. Participation is open to students from all backgrounds.
The Akkadian language was the main language of Mesopotamia from the middle of the 3rd millennium to the end of the 1st millennium BCE. It was noted with cuneiform signs – like most of the languages of the Near East at that time. The winter school ‘Cuneiform Culture and the Akkadian Language’ will provide a general introduction to this language and way of writing, employing a hands-on approach with many practical exercises.
Lectures will be held by Cécile Michel, renowned Assyriologist, head of the ‘Ethics’ working group, and Principal Investigator of the projects ‘Reading Closed Cuneiform Tablets Using High-Resolution Computed Tomography’ and ‘Archives and Literacy in 2nd Millennium Assyrian Manuscript Culture'.
Whether the course will be held online or in person is yet to be determined. Registered participants will be informed by 10 February 2022.
