Grant Proposal Writing Workshop
The aim of this workshop is to strengthen participants’ grant proposal writing skills.
The workshop consists of a 90-minute webinar that introduces participants to the basic principles of writing research proposals and of a hands-on core module (comprising 3 whole-day, in-person sessions) during which participants, under the guidance of an external trainer, develop a grant proposal to be submitted to a funding programme of their choice from an initial to a pre-final stage.
During the in-person sessions participants receive flash inputs (approx. 30-60 minutes each) on elements of third-party funding applications and practical tips and advice on proposal design and text creation. Participants then work on their own proposal texts. During this time, the trainer is available for individual questions and discussions, the outcomes of which can be incorporated directly into the in-progress proposal. Pairs are formed from among the participants; these course partners can exchange ideas with each other, clarify questions and (in addition to the trainer) give each other feedback on their texts.
The online introductory meeting is open to all interested postdocs from both UWA and UHH’s Faculty of Humanities. Max. 8-10 postdocs will be accepted (on a first-come, first-served basis) for the in-person sessions. Participation in the in-person sessions is reserved to UWA postdocs.
The following prerequisites must be met to attend the in-person sessions:
- having defined a topic and an overall concept (questions, methods, goals) for the grant proposal to be developed during the workshop;
- having identified the funding programme to which the proposal will be submitted;
- having read and understood in-depth the chosen programme’s formal and content requirements.
Additionally, participants in the in-person sessions are expected to commit to being present on all 3 sessions, for the whole day.
