Mojtaba Mahmoudi Khorandi has passed his viva voce examination, thus completing his dissertation project in archaeometry.
Congratulations to Mojtaba Mahmoudi Khorandi, who recently defended his doctoral dissertation Investigation of the Dyes and Pigments Applied in Persian Manuscripts of Timurid Dynasty with Non-Invasive Analytical Methods. The work applies an instrumental analytical approach to colours and colourants used in Persian manuscripts, with a special focus on Timurid manuscripts. In the 15th century, the Timurid Empire covered an area that included present-day Iran, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan. Employing different non-invasive techniques such as reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence, and Raman spectroscopy, Khorandi assesses the dyes and pigments used in the production of manuscripts during that era, thus providing tables and previews of the colours used for paper decoration, illumination, and calligraphy.
