In cooperation with the Cologne Institute for Conservation Sciences and several regional partners, the new three-year research project, starting in 2022, will foster the exchange between Georgian and German researchers and students.
Funded by the German Academic Exchange Service, the cooperation involves the Cologne Institute for Conservation Sciences (CICS) and the CSMC on the German side, and the Tbilisi State University (TSU) and Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (TSAA), as well as the National Centre of Manuscripts and the Georgian National Museum (GNM) on the Georgian side. The project ‘Georgia – Codicology and Preventive Conservation’ has a duration of three years and will start in 2022.
Bringing together approaches from the humanities, history, conservation, and natural sciences in the field of codicology and preventive conservation, the project seeks to establish research-based learning and teaching formats that will enhance the conditions for the conservation of manuscripts in the long run.
Head of the project is Andrea Pataki at CICS. At the CSMC, Marlen Börngen and Jost Gippert will be involved.
