We invite applications for a research associate position on the project ‘Wandering Artefacts: The Materialistic History of German-Jewish Archives. The Correspondence of Franz Rosenzweig, Martin Buber, and Margarete Susman'.
The Cluster of Excellence 'Understanding Written Artefacts' invites applications for a research associate position on the project 'Wandering Artefacts: The Materialistic History of German-Jewish Archives. The Correspondence of Franz Rosenzweig, Martin Buber, and Margarete Susman'. Requirements include a university degree in a relevant field, preferably in in Jewish studies, Jewish philosophy or philosophy of language (doctorate desirable), good knowledge of the research about archival practices, basic knowledge of Hebrew, and fluency in both written and spoken English and German. The position is full-time and fixed-term, with a duration of 28 months. Starting date: as soon as possible.
Led by Giuseppe Veltri, 'Wandering Artefacts' aims to explore the interconnectedness of materiality, displacement, and identity-building by means of a deep and thorough materialistic analysis of the exchange of documents between Franz Rosenzweig, Martin Buber, and Margarete Susman, as well as the archival traces which are found in their respective estates. The project intends to reveal the archival community of this generation of German-Jewish scholars and to examine its far-reaching implications for post-Holocaust identity building.
