This winter semester, the CSMC offers a special lecture series in cooperation with the Göttinger Akademie der Wissenschaften. The kickoff is next Tuesday, 19 October.
Multilingualism is an important feature in manuscript cultures and deserves to be studied as such. It may take different forms: influence of several languages in the process of creation of literary or documentary works or in the process of copying; translation, adaptation and reception of works in other cultures than their original one; migration of writers and manuscripts; oppression or suppression of languages and their resilience in manuscript cultures, et cetera.
In a new lecture series organised by Caroline Macé and Eva Wilden, lecturers from CSMC and the Göttinger Akademie der Wissenschaften will examine the specific problems posed by multilingual manuscript or epigraphic traditions, for which an adequate methodology needs to be designed. Lectures will be held in hybrid format on Tuesday evenings, from 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm. You can register for the lectures here.
