With an opening event on 29 September, CSMC and the Central Department of Nepalbhasa officially launched their joint effort to preserve a collection of written artefacts that offer valuable insights into Nepalese history and culture.
With the aim of preserving a collection of roughly 300 written artefacts, CSMC and the Central Department of Nepalbhasa (CDNB) in Patan started a cooperation in July 2020. Now, after almost one and a half years of preparation, an opening event on 29 September marked the official beginning of the collaboration, which belongs to the project ‘Preserving the Written Cultural Heritage of Nepal’. The ceremony was attended by multiple representatives of libraries, cultural and educational institutions in Patan. The collection at CDNB is of great value not only to Nepalese history and culture, but also in the broader context of Central Asian and South Asia.
The project is supported by two CSMC contract workers who have been trained by the Centre and possess ample experience in preservation measures from previous projects in Nepal. Generous financial support is provided by the German Foreign Office and Gerda Henkel Foundation.
