The latest edition of the book series 'Studies in Manuscript Cultures' has been published. In 22 open-access chapters, it explores this relation between manuscripts and eductional practices.
Manuscripts have played a crucial role in the educational practices of virtually all cultures that have a history of using them. Education Materialised, the latest volume in our series ‘Studies in Manuscript Cultures’ (SMC), investigates the relation between manuscripts and educational practices in multiple case studies. Stretching across geophysical boundaries from Western Europe to South-East Asia, with a time span ranging from the second millennium BCE to the twentieth century CE, the volume employs a four-fold perspective, focusing on educational settings, exegetical practices, knowledge organisation, and adaptations of manuscripts in educational contexts.
Education Materialised is edited by Stefanie Brinkmann, Giovanni Ciotti, Stefano Valente, and Eva Maria Wilden. Like almost all editions of SMC, it is published as open access and can be downloaded for free via the links above.
