Mentoring Programmes
Doctoral researchers who join UWA’s Graduate School can benefit from the guidance of a peer-mentor throughout their first semester.
Postdocs at CSMC/UWA can join a one-year mentoring programme run in cooperation with the Faculty of Humanities and aimed at supporting their personal and professional growth.
Through participating in one-on-one meetings with a mentor, group meetings to reflect on the mentoring process, peer-mentoring groups, career development workshops, and informal online meetings with mentors and mentees, postdocs gain in-depth knowledge about careers in and outside academia and develop self-reflection and career-planning skills.
Designed to equalise career opportunities, our mentoring programme offers ample opportunities for networking within and across status groups and is programmatically non-selective and non-competitive. It aims to be an open and safe space for reflecting on experiences within academia and supports both academic and non-academic career orientations.
In its inaugural run, in 2021/22, the programme was opened to all female postdocs at CSMC/UWA. For its second edition, in 2023/24, the programme was tailored to international postdocs of all genders. Scholars from institutions in Germany, Europe, China, and the US joined the programme as mentors. An overview of the 2023/24 programme can be found at:
The programme is directed by our Head of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, Martin Jörg Schäfer, and the Equal Opportunity Officer of the Faculty of Humanities; it is coordinated by our Equal Opportunity Coordinator, Mariapaola Gritti, and the Equal Opportunity Advisor of the Faculty of Humanities.
