Ancient Egyptian Ink Graffiti Inside an Old Rock Tomb: A Case Study about Temporal and Spatial References, Agents, and Text Genres
Prof. Dr. Ursula Verhoeven-van Elsbergen (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz)
In Asyut (Middle Egypt), 500 to 1000 years after the completion of a nomarch's rock tomb, Ancient Egyptian visitors left numerous ink graffiti between the scenes of the original wall decoration. The spectrum includes drawings, dates, names and titles, prayers and excerpts from religious and literary works. The lecture will shed light on various aspects of this unique finding.
