Paper Epigraphy: Handwritten (Re)Sources for the Study of Ancient Inscriptions

A large number of inscriptions are known not from the original stone, but from handwritten copies and drawings collected in manuscripts preserved in libraries all over Europe. The editors of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum made an incredible job in checking most of them, but lot of work is still to be done, especially after that a massive process of digitalization has made many of these manuscripts accessible online. The paper will present a sample of the results of this research activity and of the ongoing projects.
