International Conference in Honour of François Déroche

From 20-21 October, a conference with the title ‘The Pen, the Page, the Book’ will be held in El Escorial, Spain. Organised by Nuria de Castilla and Michael Friedrich, the event takes place in honour of the renowned codicologist and palaeographer François Déroche.

The Manuscripts of St Catherine's Church

From 5 October to 15 December, the Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek presents a wide range of medieval and early modern manuscripts from St Catherine’s Church in Hamburg. The multifaceted exhibition also makes use of ink analyses carried out at CSMC.

In ten lectures, experts from different fields ask why and how the contribution of women to these cultures has often been obscured and how women were nevertheless able to assert their influence.

Kairouan Manuscript Project Announces Partnership with the Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences

The Institute will cover consultancy fees of research associate Marlen Börngen, who is currently preparing a course on treating iron gall ink corrosion in the collections of the National Laboratory for the Preservation and Conservation of Parchment and Manuscripts in Raqqada, Kairouan, Tunisia.

From 12-16 September, the Summer School 'What Makes Egyptian Art Recognisable as Such? Understanding and Interpreting Pharaonic Artefacts from the Old Kingdom to the Ptolemaic Age’ introduces students to Egyptian Art with a focus on paintings and sculptures. Registration is now open.
