Leah Mascia has passed her viva voce examination, thus completing her doctoral project on 'The Transition from Traditional Cults to the Affirmation of Christian Beliefs in the City of Oxyrhynchus'.
Congratulations to Leah Mascia, who succesfully defended her doctoral thesis this week, which is entitled The Transition from Traditional Cults to the Affirmation of Christian Beliefs in the City of Oxyrhynchus. Taking the archaeological site of Oxyrhynchus (modern el-Bahnasa) as an example because of its exceptional state of conversation, the thesis integrates textual sources with an analysis of archaeological contexts and related material documents to assess the historical-religious dynamics that led to the transition from traditional cults to Christianity.
To pursue her research, she participated in several excavations in Oxyrhynchus. A vivid account of the many joys and challenges of these endeavours can be found in our blog.
