The main goal of AFAT is to calculate statistical information from manually generated tabular data which consists of distinctive features of artefacts. The value of each feature in these tables is represented by a positive integer, which describes the particular variant of this feature in an artefact. Furthermore, each variant can have any number of variations, represented by an alphabetical letter. The combination of variant and variation can be used to describe the observed version of a given feature in an artefact.
The main tasks achieved by this software tool are:
- Calculating individual statistics for each entry in the table
- Calculating general statistics for each table as a whole
- Calculating distances between different tables
In order to run AFAT on your computer, please follow these steps:
- Download the ".zip" file, then extract it to a folder on your local computer.
- You can run the AFAT application by double-clicking the executable file "AFAT " in your extracted folder. It might require some administrative privileges depending on your system settings.
- A command window will start, then the AFAT will run in your default Internet browser. Although it uses your Internet browser, it is an offline application running on your local computer. You do not need an Internet connection.
- When you finish using AFAT, you can simply close the command window.
