The CSMC Research Associate takes over the office for an initial three years. The Argentine Committee of Byzantine Studies gathers scholars from Argentina and Europe and facilitates research on Byzantine culture.
José Maksimczuk has recently been elected new president of the Comité Argentino de Estudios Bizantinos (Argentine Committee of Byzantine Studies) (CAEBiz). For an initial period of three years, he will chair the meetings of the Executive Committee and represent the organisation in the public sphere.
Founded in 2001, CAEBiz was associated with the International Association of Byzantine Studies (AIEB) in 2016. AIEB, in turn, promotes and stimulates the study of different fields related to Byzantine culture since its foundation in 1948.
Gathering researchers from Argentina and Europe, CAEBiz facilitates research in Byzantine Philology, History, Literature, Manuscriptology, and Medicine. Since 2015, it is involved in the 'International Byzantine Colloquia' of the University of Buenos Aires. It is also hosting virtual meetings where Argentine scholars can meet and exchange ideas with foreign colleagues.
At CSMC, José Maksimczuk is a Research Associate at the Cluster of Excellence ‘Understanding Written Artefacts’, where he works on the project ‘Polygenetic Manuscripts in the Transmission of Aristotle’s Physics, Biology, Theory of Science and Ethics‘. He is the co-organiser of the workshop ‘Removed and Rewritten: Palimpsests and Related Phenomena from a Cross-Cultural Perspective’, which is going to take place from 7-8 October and for which registration is still open.
