The UWA Cluster of Excellence is looking for a doctoral researcher in the field of microbiology and molecular biology to work on a project entitled 'Investigation of the autochthonous microbiota of parchment and identification of potential microbial reasons for decay'.
The position is part-time (75% of standard work hours per week) and fixed-term, with a duration of three and a half years (1 January 2026 to 30 June 2029).
Your core responsibility is to pursue your research project, involving creating an overview of the autochthonous microbiota (bacteria, yeasts, fungi) of parchment as well as identifying potential spoilage microorganisms that might induce parchment decay. In collaboration with other project partners, you will characterise different forms of decay and help developing sensitive and fast detection methods. You will actively contribute to the cluster’s interdisciplinary Graduate School and collaborative research activities. Activities include participation in research meetings, organising scholarly events and developing relevant networks.

The deadline for applications is 8 October 2025.
