The Cluster of Excellence 'Understanding Written Artefacts' is looking for a Research Associate to join the research project on 'Reading Closed Cuneiform Tablets Using High-Resolution Computed Tomography'. Research Associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
The position is full-time and fixed-term, with a duration of two and half years (until 31 December 2025; starting date is as soon as possible).
Duties include research, development, and transfer of efficient non-invasive methods of unpacking of cuneiform tablets as part of the project ‘Reading Closed Cuneiform Tablets Using High-Resolution Computed Tomography (CT)’, consisting of
- development and optimisation of a software for efficient feature extraction from high-resolution volume data as well as its transfer to applications
- development and optimisation of software for interactive visualisation of the extracted features and support of immersive 3D presentation and interaction devices
- processing of 3D CT data of enclosed cuneiform tablets
- development of immersive exhibits for the presentation and exhibition of virtual cuneiform tablets
