The focus of the new issue no. 14 of CSMC’s journal 'manuscript cultures' is the written heritage of the Batak, a large ethnic group from North Sumatra, Indonesia. The issue, edited by Jan van der Putten und Roberta Zollo, is a catalogue of two parallel exhibitions that were held in Hamburg in 2020. It describes various Batak manuscripts and other written artefacts in the collections of two public institutions in Hamburg – the Museum am Rothenbaum – Kulturen und Künste der Welt (MARKK) and the Asien-Afrika-Institut (AAI) at Hamburg University – along with manuscripts from eight private collections in Germany.
The new issue, like all others of 'manuscript cultures', is published as open access and can be downloaded for free via the links above. Free printed copies can be ordered from CSMC.
