The Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures welcomes Dr Karin Wiedergut as a remote Petra Kappert Fellows.
She is a Vienna-trained ancient historian, focussing on the epigraphic landscape of Roman Asia Minor. Her primary research fields cover the social and economic history of Imperial Asia Minor, funerary epigraphy, and funerary law as well as the administrative history of the Roman East. She received her PhD from the University of Vienna with a thesis on public archives and notaries in the Imperial cities of Western Asia Minor.
While with the CSMC she plans to continue her work on archives in the ancient world, focussing on two specific aspects: Archival processes and procedures as detectable in the epigraphic record as well as inscriptions making reference to archives and archiving in their original setting in the public space.
Dr Wiedergut can be contacted at karin.wiedergut"AT"oeaw.ac.at . We very much look forward to working with her.
