Multilingual Scholarship and Teaching
Normalised today as the lingua franca of scholarship, English makes our research findings inaccessible to large lay and scholarly audiences in many of the world regions in which we work. In order to enable conversations about written artefacts across linguistic regions and scholarly traditions, we hold some of our events, including talks and seminars, in languages other than English, focusing particularly on African and Asian languages. Additionally, many UWA researchers regularly present their work using the languages of the regions where they work.
Our pilot events in Arabic and Farsi have shown us that scholarly activities in languages other than English are in high demand. Please feel free to contact UWA’s Equity & Diversity Coordinator, Mariapaola Gritti (mariapaola.gritti"AT"uni-hamburg.de), if you would like to receive support organising teaching or presentations in languages other than English or German at CSMC or UHH.
