Next generation sequencing system; MiSeq, Illumina
The Illumina MiSeq is a stationary benchtop sequencer that measures approximately two square feet. Time of sequencing and data output depend on the chemistry used. For example, sequencing can take a couple of hours to up to a couple of days.
- Application aim: Massive parallel sequencing of millions of DNA molecules
- Mobility: stationary
- Application requirements: vibration safe table
- Operating conditions: 19-25 °C, humidity range: 20%-80%, altitude: < 2000 m, air quality: Pollution degree rating of II, ventilation: maximum of 1,364 BTU/h. Indoor use only
- Sample required: Depending on material and research question non-invasive sampling is possible. When sampling is needed, the amount of sample depends on preservation state and material.
- Limitations: sequencing results depend on DNA quality
- Time effort: DNA library preparation (min. 4 h), measurement of library performance (2 h), setting up sequencer (up to 2 h), optionally: targeted enrichment following DNA library preparation for specific DNA sequencing (up to 50 h)
- Software package: integrated analysis software
- Output: .fastq files, 540 Mb to 15 Gb, up to 50 Mio. reads per run
