Microscopy
Stylianos Aspiotis, Olivier Bonnerot
Microscopy (from μικρός “small”, and σκοπέω “observe, examine”) is a set of techniques aiming at imaging small objects, in particular those invisible to the naked eye. The three main types of microscopy are optical microscopy (a beam of visible light interacts with the object and a system of lenses magnifies the investigates area), electron microscopy (a beam of electrons interacts with the object under study and is collected by the detector), and scanning-probe microscopy (a sensor directly probes the surface of the object under study).
