Kairouan Laboratory Personnel Visit Germany
15 December 2019, by Webmaster
From December 9-13, 2019, four manuscript conservators from Tunisia traveled to Hamburg for a week of workshops and meetings, part of a cooperation project with the Tunisian National Heritage Institute (INP), the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC), and the Kairouan Manuscript Project (KMP).
During their stay in Germany, the Tunisian team visited the mobile lab of the CSMC, toured the collections of various libraries and museums in Hamburg and then spent a day in Berlin, where they saw both the collection of the Berlin State Library and also the state-of-the-art conservation laboratories there. At the close of the visit, Saleh al-Mehdi ben Hammouda, director of the Laboratory, composed a memorandum of common principles and priorities with Michael Friedrich, CSMC director, and Jonathan Brockopp, director of the KMP.
