Access to the collection
Collection Access Request Guidelines
Access to consult material at the National Laboratory for the Preservation and Conservation of Parchment and Manuscripts (NLPCPM) in Raqqada, Kairouan is by appointment only. The NLPCPM is primarily a conservation facility; there is no catalog, no dedicated reading room and staff cannot be expected to answer questions or to search for additional materials.
Readers must apply at least one month in advance and can visit for a maximum of two weeks at one time. Please do not make any travel arrangements until your access request has been approved. A Collections Access Request (CAR) form will be published here soon, until that time, submit your request (preferably in French), including a detailed description of the material you wish to research, to the General Director, Tunisian National Heritage Institute, 04, place du château, 1008 Tunis.
Access cannot be given to material currently on display. Only the reader(s) indicated on the CAR form may consult the requested material. No additional persons will be admitted to the NLPCPM.
Personal Identification on Arrival
Proof of identification is required to access material from the collection. Photocopies or photographs will not be accepted and may result in access being refused. Only the following forms of ID are acceptable:
- Tunisian citizens: passport, driver’s license, or national ID
- All others: passport
Collection access is available from Monday to Friday: 10.00am - 1.00pm; and 2.00pm - 4.30pm
Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation.
