Nepal School Project
The one-day course at the Āśā Archives in Kathmandu introduces local pupils to basic preservation measures for written artefacts and digitisations techniques in an interactive and playful way.
The programme is designed for high school students and is structured in two sessions. First, they learn about some the preservation measures that are being carried out at the Āśā Saphūkuthi (Āśā Archives). This part of the programme also includes lessons on different writing supports, materials, writing systems, scripts, and how to handle handwritten artefacts. The second session is a hands-on lesson in which the attendants learn how to clean manuscripts step by step and how to digitise them.
The programme is organised in the context of the project ‘Preserving the Written Cultural Heritage in Nepal’ at the CSMC. It is generously supported by the project ‘Hidden Stories: New Approaches to the Local and Global History of the Book’ at the University of Toronto, Canada.
