Start of cataloguing and preservation work in Djenné

Supported by shared funds from the Gerda Henkel Foundation and Endangered Archive Programme, British Library (EAP-BL), the Djenné Manuscript Library started work on cataloguing and preservation. Thanks to the co-funding scheme, the Djenné Manuscript Library welcomed Mr Saadu Traoré as head cataloguer who works with his assistant Mr Mohammed Diallo. Mr Traoré’s expertise in cataloguing of Islamic manuscripts is essential for the overall quality of the ongoing digitization project that has been funded by EAP-BL since 2009. The preservation work will be reinforced by new members of staff who will be responsible for making boxes and other basic conservation tasks.
