Dr Abdel Kader Haïdara joined Dr Elmar Frank and Dr Dmitry Bondarev in a talk devoted to the past and present problems of safeguarding the manuscripts of Timbuktu. In this interview-style presentation Dr Haïdara gave a dramatic account of the rescue operation he organised in 2012 in order to sneak thousands of endangered manuscripts from the then besieged city of Timbuktu. The presenters discussed the importance of the Timbuktu manuscripts for the history of Africa and mankind.
