Basic plus Advanced Workshop ‘Care and Conservation’ in Kathmandu, 7-8 & 9-18 February 2020

With a grand opening ceremony on 7 February 2020, a combined basic and advanced workshop on care and conservation of manuscripts started at the Āśā Saphūkuthi (Āśā Archives) in Kathmandu. The extended workshop was a response to the great demand that was communicated to the project team by various stakeholders after the first basic hands-on workshop on the same topic that was held in July 2019 in Kathmandu. This year’s extended format offered basic preservation skills for beginners and, subsequently, an intensive training on special preservation techniques for more experienced staff. Both training sessions were again guided by CSMC’s permanent fellow Michaelle Biddle. The overwhelming interest in the preservation of manuscript collections as an important part of the Nepalese written heritage was also reflected by the wide range of representatives of archives, libraries, cultural and educational institutions who took part in the grand opening ceremony on 7 February 2020 at the Āśā Saphūkuthi (Āśā Archives) in Kathmandu.
