When diverse fields collaborate on projects involving unique objects, establishing a complementary methodological framework and shared terminology are essential. This is particularly vital in interdisciplinary research involving the study and conservation of cultural heritage, where professionals from the humanities, natural sciences, and conservation fields may approach the same object with different methodologies, objectives, and specialised vocabulary.\n
The workshop highlights the potential of X-ray and synchrotron radiation for cultural heritage research, aiming to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration. Discussions will focus on Xray–based methods for material characterization, provenance, dating, authentication, and the detection of alterations or forgeries. DESY will further present current projects at PETRA III, outline new opportunities at PETRA IV and address practical aspects such as beamtime applications, experiment planning, and data handling for researchers who wish to use these instruments.\n
